Friesen Tokar Architects is an established consulting firm that provides full architectural, landscape and interior design services for a variety of project types throughout Canada, in the United States and overseas. Our firm holds Certificates of Practice in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Ontario. Established in 1975, the firm is based in Winnipeg and has recently opened a second office in Calgary. Principals of the firm are Rudy P. Friesen, Brian W. Tokar, Jerald D. Peters, Rock G. Jerome, Joanne L. McFadden, Ken A. MacKinnon and John B. van Leeuwen.
During the past more than thirty years, our firm has successfully completed numerous educational, healthcare, seniors housing and commercial projects for our clients.
Friesen Tokar is a leader in sustainable design. We have been designing high performance buildings for many years. As proud members of the Canada Green Building Council and founding organizers of our local chapter, we are committed to designing buildings that are good for people, enterprises, communities and ecosystems. Many of our projects exceed the Model National Energy Code of Canada and have received incentive funding from the Commercial Building Incentive Program (CBIP), Manitoba Hydro’s PowerSmart Program and CBIP Alberta Plus.
Recently, Manitoba Hydro recognized the new student residence at Canadian Mennonite University, designed by Friesen Tokar, as Manitoba’s most energy efficient building.

The Team
We employ a highly skilled and professional team of people, consisting of registered architects, graduate architects, interior designers, a landscape architect, contract administrators and technologists. Our staff includes LEED™ accredited professionals and we actively raise public awareness about the benefits of sustainable design practices. In our presentations to clients, governments and members of the building community, we demonstrate how green buildings last longer, cost less to operate, protect health, save the environment, and enhance productivity and learning.
